This week we have been learning about what scientists do. Now we know that scientists question things, observe things, do experiments and record their findings. We do those things too! We are scientists!
We conducted an experiment to find out how many drops of water will fit on top of a penny. Boy, were we surprised! Our predictions were much lower than our results. That tells us that we learned something! We also conducted a taste test to see if we can taste thins when we cannot see them or smell them. Our prediction was correct. We all could taste the difference between a potato and an apple.
Finally, we conducted an experiment to see if an orange floats. You’ll have to ask your young scientists what we learned with the experiment.
Science is awesome!
What a Great Start!
The school year has gotten off to a great start! Students have been working hard to learn our new routines and the new expectations that first grade brings. It has been so much fun helping them adjust to the changes and learning all about them. I am look forward to a wonderful year of learning and growing together.
Our Rules
This week we discussed what kind of a classroom we wanted to spend our time in this year. Students came up with all of the ideas of what they thought we would need to have our room be a pleasant place for all of us. Let me tell you, they are very insightful. We condensed their ideas into four rules to help us enjoy our time learning together this year. I have to say, I think they nailed it. These rules could just about take us through life!
